My eldest daughter celebrated her 13th birthday this weekend. It seems like the blink of an eye since we welcomed our little bundle of joy into the world, staring at her in awe and wondering what lay ahead. She had her dad wrapped around her little finger from the beginning and to be honest, she still has – it never ceases to amaze me (nor James) what she can get away with.
At home Emma is possibly the loudest – she is always singing and dancing and she will most definitely argue her point if she feels she is being treated unfairly, a character trait I will encourage unless of course, she is arguing with me! However, outside the safety of these four walls, she is a quiet girl and a deep thinker, it takes her a little while to warm to people, simply because she is weighing them up. She will not push herself forward and definitely prefers to blend in. There are times I have to stop myself from giving her a little nudge to put herself forward. But I have to respect she will do it in her own time and believe you me that can be challenging as I was one of those kids who always had her hand up first.
This is a brand new and exciting chapter for Emma, she is a big girl now – the mascara and lipgloss have already made an appearance. So what lies ahead? I have no clue and to be honest it is at times like this I wish I had a crystal ball what with the fast moving society we live in and the challenges young girls face. However, the biggest hope I have for my wee brown eyed girl is that she is happy, I know she will have to go through the roller coaster of life but whatever path she takes and wherever she ends up in this world, her happiness is paramount.
